Proxima estacion: San Francisco

I finally got my student scholarship for WWDC 2006 and so it’s official now: I will go to San Francisco in August!

This fits in very well with my current plans for my future:

“James” should not die. James is the name of my yet unreleased XML-feed-aggregator for OSX which I did as my diploma project. Some may know it from my presentation at WebMontag, and it’s currently in alpha status. Since “beta” means “release” these days, alpha is the only letter left to describe something as “not yet finished”. And with James, there is a lot left to be finished. But now I have the motivation to try to bring it into a releaseable status until WWDC. Phew, that shall be a lot of work, and the summer is great here in Dresden, and then there’s the world cup… But I want to do it. And I hope to be able to continue working on it, once I started my carreer.

Speaking of carreer options, of which there are two: Find a Job in Germany (or anywhere else in Europe, in a country whose language I speak [UK, France,...]), that has something to do with web2.0, social software and other very meaningful stuff that is being described by much too generic buzzwords. The best job would be a project that combines these things with some Cocoa programming – There are a lot of possibilities and it’s fun :)

The second option would be to do the same thing – but in the United States. If there’s some possible employer who considers giving me a job or internship (for half a year, a year or maybe even longer…) I will be available for a personal interview in SF in early August :)

And if you, dear reader, have personal experience in how to handle the task of finding a job in the US from germany, which visa or permissions are needed, or if you know people I should talk to, please feel free to contact me or make a comment!

And I look forward to meeting all the folks I met in SF last year! It was – and will be – a great time!

Congratulations, Gernot! And now a message to you US employers: This guy is really a kick-ass usability and coding expert, thus simply talk to him and let him build some amazing stuff for your company!

I envy you going to San Francisco! A place I’d like to visit again definetly…

Awesome, I got one too—maybe we’ll see each other there. Let’s hear it for dumb luck. :)

Congrats. Tell me, when do we get James on PC Gernot? Check my blog entry at: http://tycoteam.blogspot.com/2006/06/1-webmontag-in-dresden.html, I added some thoughts there. Good luck for SF – I love this town. If you stay there for a while, let me knock at your door.
